NYDAC is Gearing Up for Red Bull Mini Drome in NYC on June 27th

Two of New York City’s most prolific cycling crews — Street Kings and Brooklyn Machine Works — are eagerly anticipating this year’s Red Bull Mini Drome event.

Racing on a radically-shrunken velodrome track, fifty teams of two (100 riders) will compete in the fast-paced, fixed gear bike race, where even the slightest mistake can result in a massive crash.

Watch the video above to preview the action of fixed gear racers competing against the clock, the course, and the other riders in this unique cycling event.

“The Red Bull Mini Drome isn’t something you can ride regularly — it pops up when it pops up,” says Joseph Avedisian, founder of Brooklyn Machine Works, of the non-annual event. “And if you’re lucky to be on the planet near where it pops up, you can ride it.”

On June 27 at the Brooklyn Masonic Temple, the field of 50 teams will get narrowed down to the eight fastest teams based on time trials. The eight duos will compete in a head-to-head knockout stage with the final team being crowned the victor of the 2014 Red Bull Mini Drome. Doors open at 7 p.m. EST with team rounds at 10:30 p.m. and head-to-head racing at 11:30 p.m.
